21. Missing: Everything But the Girl
Tracey Thorn’s softly brittle vocals and Missing’s pulsing synth beats make it possibly the ultimate tears on the dancefloor track. The 1994 hitmarked the gateway to Everything But the Girl’s move into electronic music, and is equally well-remembered as both the original album version and a more upbeat dance remix.

Sims Sims, a classically trained pianist, teamed up with electro-funk producer Kurtis Mantronik and kept her vocals relatively restrained for a ballad. Killer line: Because I can brighten up your day/If you’re feeling bad, I put a smile on your face.
